W.I.P Hobbit SBG

Hi all, in about three weeks time I’ll be going to my third and final GBHL tournament of this year. The tournament will be 850 points so I’m going to have to increase my Infantry, Heroes and cavalry to my existing Minas Tirith force. So I started work on 12 Knight’s of Minas Tirith also I’ve have made their own bases like they’re riding on a paved road. Hopefully I’ll finish these sometime next week and then I will start on the heroes and infantry. The heroes I’m doing are Aragorn King Elessar, Faramir and Pippin for infantry I am doing 6 guards of the fountain court. Here are some pictures thanks dcminiaturepainting

Finished LOTR

Hi all, I finished off some Haradrim Warriors and 1 Abrakhan Guard last week. They taken longer to paint than I would like for basic troop. I’m happy with the blue and white colour scheme but the white was a pain, think I’ll try a different way with the next batch. I will change the wash I put on the black skin and I’m might changing the brand of paint I used for the silver. I didn’t know what colour to  do the bases so asked on GBHL facebook, picked one of the suggestion sandstone on the path and red brown for the gravel. The next batch I do I’ll spend a bit more time on clean up didn’t notice how bad the mould lines were on the bows until it was too late. The guys with the spears above there head I couldn’t paint the face to well. So I will keep the hands with spears separate after I’ve done I’ll glue on be for varnishing. The bases I bought from GenerationShift part of the broken white city range, he has many more others bases on offer look him up on facebook.

The paints I used:
(Skin Tanned) FP Mediterranean Flesh set, GW Reikland Flesh wash
(Skin Black) FP African Flesh set, GW Nulu Oil wash
(Blue) VMC Dark Prusia Blue, VMC Ultramarine, VGI Black, VGI Blue
(White) VMC Sky Grey, VMC Off White, VMC White
(Metal) VAGC Gunmetal, VAGC Chainmal Silver, VAGC Silver, GW Nulu Oil wash
(Leather Brown) VGC Leather Brown, VGC Plague Brown, GW Seraphim Sepia wash

Journey of a wargamer Part 9

Hi all, I’ve been a bit lazy with the blog haven’t put anything up in a while so I thought I’d update it. The gates of Antares project I start some time ago the Beginning year I think, I’ve lost all interest in it and I’m just going to box it up and sell it off. Just don’t have any time for it to many other projects. I’ve also find me some nice urbancity bases for my Batman Miniatures the gcpd I got on eBay.

I’m still working on my Hobbit/LOTR sbg miniatures I decided on a colour scheme for my haradrim. I went for the blue and white colour scheme I did a while back. And when I was looking on eBay I found two of my favourite characters Gimli and Legolas probably the best versions in the miniature. Gimli’s axe handle was broke so I’ve had to fix it using plastic square rod, it will also need a bit of green stuff around the cape.

I’m still playing sbg but also getting back into war machine at my local club Bristol biguns there is a new league starting up. I have my first game in the league this Sunday just gone against the legion. The game start off well for me moving up fast putting debuff’s (I’m a Cryxs player) on my opponents force. On my second turn managed to set off my feat, putting some hurt on his big beasties. By the third turn things start to go down hill I was not getting the roles I needed and my opponents flying monster came over and destroyed my caster.

Many thanks dcminiaturespainting

A journey of a wargamer part 8

Hi all, I’ve not posted much up at all basically I burnt myself out with lots of painting. Now I’ve had my brake I’ll start back up again continue with what I’ve started. I almost finished painting the starter box of gates of Antares, hopefully will finish this soon just to get them out the way I find them boring to paint.

Also been doing some work on some Batman miniatures gcpd plus swat and chief Gordon. These guys are also almost done just don’t know what to do with their bases I don’t like the standard ones they come with.

This weekend just gone I had a nice surprise the new WarMachine Rulebook turn up with a retribution of scyrah starter box set which is amazing well worth the money and a new pack of cards for my cryx.

Hobbit/LOTR SBG

Hi all,so last Sunday me and my friend Ian went to are local gaming club Bristol big’ums to introduced a club member to SBG. First we showed Ken a game just to try and get the basics down using 500 points each me with my Gondor force and Ian with his uruk-hai. After Ian won the game I let Ken take the reins of my Gondor force. Doing to the death scenario a nice simple one just kill each other. Ken was having good fun with Boromir going around heroic combat everybody. When the game was finished Ken won on points. If anyone lives in the Bristol area  (UK) and fancies having a game visit http://www.biguns.co.uk

Also been trying out some different colour schemes for my haradrim. I quite like the blue and white myself but I think I have to paint the sash a different colour.

Sunday Desolation of Stockport part 3

Hi all, so this was the last day of the tournament just 3 games left to play.
5) Seize the prize
First opponent for the day was Ben sorry can’t remember his last name, he was using Mordor force led by Dark Marshal I think. The scenario involves picking up an objective in the centre of the board taking off your opponent board edge. As most of the time in the games we meet in the centre a fight it out collect the objective. Ben got the objective first but I managed to get Dwalin to kill the orc that had it. The Dark Marshal with his warband was fighting it out with Cirion warband. Cirion warband killed off the Dark Marshal warband sadly not the wraith, Ben pulled him back up towards his troll where he cast a spell that made Dwalin dumb. Dwalin ended up losing the fight against the troll and was killed, now the troll had the objective marker. The trolls pushing the dwarves out of the way making his way to my table edge. I was trying to use my Rangers to put the troll down but had no luck what so ever. Ben got the objective to my edge but not off the board and time was called Ben won game.

6) To Kill a King
Play against lad called Tom sorry yet again forgot the last name, his force Arnor grey company was very shooting. The scenario for this game was to kill army general, but if you were to use might points you would be penalised by giving your opponent a victory point. Tom deploy his force at distance so I’d have to travel to him will he just shot away at me. I put Cirion warband more to the centre and Dwalin warband as far away as possible using the terrain to cover him plus using his own men for in the way tests. Cirion Rangers were exchanging fire with Halbarad warband with not much happening there. Arathorn warband was trying to snipe out Dwalin but never happened. Dwalin warband was chasing Halbarad warband around board picking off the odd character. Cirion was eventually shot to death by Arathorn warband. What was left of Cirion warband started to jump over the river to get into close combat. As game was coming to a close my force was broken but I was passing my stand fast tests. I won by victory points.

7) Domination
The last game of the tournament was against David Cooper, his force was a Minas Tirith. In this scenario you have a multiple objective markers to hold. My deployment was a bad plan I ended up with my warbands to far apart I should have kept them together. David was putting his cavalry to good use causing me more problems. My warbands just got overwhelmed by his bigger force. The game went to David.

So that was all my games I had at Desolation of Stockport 2016. I would like to say a big thanks to all my opponent I played a thoroughly enjoyed all my games I had with you all. Out of 50 wargamers that attended the tournament I came out 40th, I’m happy with that as this is the only second tournament I’ve done this year. Also a big thanks to the tournament organiser Jamie Giblin and his MC James Clark part of the gbhl YouTube team.

On the Friday night there was a special release of sbg magazine 3# done by the two more members of the gbhl team Damian O’Byrne & Tom Harrison. This magazine is a very special edition with many other members of the community involved to make terrain and also create many of the miniatures. A scene from The Hobbit film involving white Council battling the necromancer to save Gandalf. They brought all the terrain and the miniatures to the tournament giving all the players a chance to play the scenario it was great fun and I glad they did it.
